So – I’m interested what anyone thinks of this argument. One of the commonly used arguments for abortion is that the embryo, the fetus, is so small, it’s “Insignificant” and cannot really matter or be alive. It’s not a “Person” yet, I believe is the current way of painting the issue.
So, the Lord woke me up with this argument the other night. Why do you wash your hands? Well, because there’s germs on there – right? So, what you’re telling me is that you wash your hands, perhaps a dozen or more times a day, in order to combat something you cannot see, but that you recognize is “Significant”. So, how can you therefore say that a fertilized egg inside a woman’s body is somehow “Insignificant” – as it’s “Human” and “Alive”?
One of the best ways to argue with folks, and Jesus did this very well, was to use everyday analogies, what we call “Parables” to teach folks a point. In fact, a parable is a story that uses common, ordinary things to teach a spiritual truth. The spiritual truth here is that, regardless of how folks “Paint the issue”, abortion boils down to the killing of a live human being, even if that human being is so small as to seem insignificant.
To paraphrase Dr. Seuss, from his tremendous work “Horton Hears A Who”, I always tell folks, “A person’s a person, no matter how small”. To deny that, since we all started that small, is to deny your own humanity.
