Satan Is A Great Sponsor Of Religion

I was reading in 1 Corinthians 10 this morning, and I came to the passage about eating food sacrificed to demons. Here is what Paul says in that passage (1 Cor 10:20-21):

“No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons. You cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons.”

I wrote, in response to a sermon on this passage by Pastor Wes Sthole at our old church in Aurora, CO, that: “Satan is a great sponsor of religion”. The meaning is clear: As long as Satan can keep folks “Busy” doing “Religious things” then they will go on thinking they are “Saved” when in fact, they are not.

When I go out and share my faith, I am constantly telling folks, warning them, that “Religion – is man’s belief that he can get to God on his own power”. And this is the crux of the issue. All other “Religions” out there, are based on the idea that there is some kind of map, a set of instructions, that if you follow them, you will get to Heaven.

Nothing could be further from the truth! The gospel message tells us that we can do NOTHING about our sin! There is no solution for us, in human terms. The only way of salvation, is to have faith (believe) that Jesus died on the cross, a perfect sacrifice, to atone for our sins (pay the price that God demands for sin, which is death / blood). Since Jesus is God, He was able to live a perfect sinless life, and go to the cross – unblemished, untarnished by this world He came to visit.

The proof of the entire gospel message is the resurrection, the single most important event in history, following Jesus’ advent (His birth). The place and time where Jesus was born, is the place where the eternal intersects the temporal, where the divine intersects the corrupt.
