Do Guns Kill People?

The meme surrounding this is just incredible.  There are many, otherwise well-meaning and intelligent folks out there, even Christians, who have bought into the lie, hook , line and sinker, that guns kill people, that guns, somehow, are the problem.

In the end analysis, I personally believe what the Bible says (as Paul wrote in Romans 3:23) “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God”. What it means is that (of course) guns aren’t the problem, nor are knives, or hammers, or ladders, or cars… PEOPLE are the problem. Our “Sin nature” is the problem. Somebody once asked “Why do we sin?” and of course, the simple answer is “Because we are sinners”. Too simple? Let me put it this way. What Paul tells us is a paraphrase of something King David wrote in the Psalms (14:3), and was echoed by Solomon in the book of Ecclesiastes (7:20). They all realized, that we are by nature against God, i.e., we tend to do our will and not God’s. We are REBELS against God!

So, if in fact, you cannot stop shootings, or killings, murders, etc.., then you cannot rely on “Authorities” to protect you either. The average police response time in various communities varies, but in most cases it will NEVER be quick enough if you are confronted by someone with a gun. It’s a very difficult decision to make, and each of us must decide whether or not we’d “Die with Jesus’ name on our lips, quietly, or whether we’d like to try and save ours or our family’s lives from those who are determined to harm us. Many in Law Enforcement freely admit this fact and urge homeowners especially, to arm themselves to protect themselves. At the end of the day, Jesus told us to love one another, but He did NOT tell us not to protect ourselves from those determined to harm us. At least, that’s how I read it.

It is basically the reasoning behind whether or not there are “Just wars” and should we be allowed to kill one another for some reasons but not others. In some ways, it goes back to the King James Version of the Bible that translated (mis-translated) the sixth Commandment as “Thou shalt not kill”. The truth is, the Hebrew for that is more correctly translated as “Thou shalt not shed innocent blood (murder)”. For over 300 years folks based their entire “Religion” on the fact that you had to be 100% pacifist and not kill at all, when in reality, the Bible never said anything of the sort. Oh well. So when folks decide to arm themselves to protect themselves from bad people, I think it’s a good thing, because they aren’t threatening me at all, since I’m a law-abiding citizen. I wonder why the government gets so worried?

    • People are just rabid these days. Like Hollywood, they are rabidly against guns, and all for gun violence in movies, and against the police shooting people, but all for “Executing” police officers. It’s more than upside down, Come soon Lord Jesus!
