Is The End Near?

“Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.”  Matthew 3:2, 4:17

“And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”  Matthew 24:14.

Does FaceBook count as the “Whole world”?  What are there now, over a billion users?  Last year FaceBook commissioned a study, based on the famous 6 degrees of separation notion.  They found that indeed, it is actually less than 6 degrees of separation, more like 5.25 degrees of separation between ourselves, and every other person on this planet.  Or so they claim.

Is the end near?

“He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming soon.” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus!”  Revelation 22:20

My take is to warn people to “Always be ready”.  None of us knows the day or the time, but we can certainly interpret the signs.  Nobody who walked into Columbine High School on April 20, 1999 expected to be killed, and yet two disgruntled boys set up explosives and brought guns to kill “As many as they could” of their classmates.  The first girl killed was Rachel Scott.

I had the privilege of hearing Darrell Scott (Rachel’s father), just a short time afterwards, speak to a men’s breakfast at the church where I was attending in Aurora, CO. His belief, as mine, is that we have taken God out of our schools (and our society) and we are reaping the whirlwind.   Those boys walked up to his daughter and stuck a gun between her eyes and asked her “So, do you still believe in God?”  Her answer, supported by the testimony of several witnesses was:  “You know I do”.  They shot her.

Could you or I hold up under that kind of circumstance?  I ask myself that question every single day.  I trust Jesus will give me the strength if and when it happens to not deny Him on that day.  I pray He does!

  1. Amen! I hope I never have to be in such a situation, but may God give me the strength if that happens. Many Christians actually find themselves in that situation all over the world.

  2. I read Joel Rosenberg’s post on his blog today. He had read an article by Franklin Graham and was commenting on that. I will post both links here shortly. Mr. Rosenberg appropriately quoted Matthew 24:36-44

“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be. Then there will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one will be left. Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will.”
