Must read: “More Christians died for the faith in the twentieth century than in the previous nineteen centuries of Christian history combined.”

This is the reality of our times. Becoming a Christian may be the most dangerous thing you ever do.

Joel C. Rosenberg's Blog

Jesus-onthecrossRead a sobering yet fascinating article this morning about the magnitude of Christian persecution in our age. It was written by George Weigel, the distinguished senior fellow of Washington’s Ethics and Public Policy Center.

Weigel is Catholic and writes from this vantage point in an on-line magazine called, First Things.

  1. So I have taken this tack lately when telling folks about our world: According to the “Wisdom of the World” we are evolving and “Getting better.” Let’s look at the facts: More people were killed in wars in the 20th Century than all previous history combined, and those were not “Religious” wars or anything like that. Next, more people were killed in genocides in the 20th Century also than in all of history combined prior to that. Thirdly, more Christians were killed for their faith in the 20th Century than all 1800 years prior to that – combined. This may be shocking to some, but it simply means that we are getting worse.

Then, you can also consider the fact that the number of babies killed by abortion in the 20th Century (near 1 Billion) blows all those other numbers out of the water. For the Christian, this should make you weep. For a worldly person… it’s just sad if they try to deny the reality of any of this.
