I attended a talk at our new church two weeks ago, the speaker was Moran Rosenblitt, of Hope For Israel Ministries. Moran showed video from the recent earthquake and Tsunami in Japan. He made a comment something to the effect that as we watched a driver of a small car trying to out race the 50 foot wall of water coming at him about 200mph, “What do you think was going through that person’s head? Do you think they were ready? ARE YOU READY?”
It certainly stopped us all dead in our thoughts! I mean, I had gone to Haiti last year following the earthquake there on Jan. 12, 2010, and I had seen unimaginable destruction, and scenes of chaos, but also witnessed hope among those people, hope in Jesus Christ, our risen Savior. But, when I look around today and see a group running around with signs proclaiming that tomorrow, May 21, 2011 is “Judgement Day,” I have to wonder if there are any of us who need to ask ourselves that question: “Am I ready?”
Not that I believe Doomsday will be on the predicted day, but I do believe the end could come today – or tomorrow – in fact any time. I always say that if you want to get people to throw stuff at you then you ought to go down to Hollywood Blvd. with a sign that reads “Turn or BURN!” Yeah, they’ll throw stuff at you, and yell at you too. It’s easy to get people mad at you and to ruffle their feathers. It’s another thing entirely to try and get them to pause and reflect on their lives. Are you living each day as if it could be your last? That was Jesus’ real message when He told us that “Nobody knows the day or the hour.” And yet He told us also that when we see the “Signs” that it is near, that we had better be prepared.
So, are you ready?
